- Start with a Monk setup that survives and keeps attacking. Furious Fist with Spirit Stream is one reported early pairing; do not make a complete Rune Set or a specific Legendary the price of starting.
- For a later Sacred Judgment route, solve mana sustain before replacing recovery equipment with more damage. The route below uses progression conditions rather than an unverified level-by-level allocation.
Build a working early attack and recovery loop
In the October 3 early-boss discussion, a Monk player recommends Furious Fist with Spirit Stream, alongside healing, Magic Resist, Attack Speed and Vitality investment. Treat that as a starting package to try with your available skills, not a promise that one allocation beats every early boss. The immediate goal is to finish a whole stage without the setup falling apart at its boss.
| Priority | What to inspect | When to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Survival | Can you live through the dangerous boss attack? | If you die before recovery matters, compare health and the relevant defensive stats. |
| Attack uptime | Is the intended skill firing consistently? | If mana runs out, fix the resource problem before adding another expensive attack. |
| Weapon contribution | Is your weapon still keeping up with the encounters? | Compare an available replacement rather than rejecting it solely for being Rare. |
| Skill fit | Do your bonuses help the attacks you actually use? | Avoid a large investment in a later route that is not yet available. |
Weapon upgrades are worth checking early. Qkeyz’s October 1 report describes repeatedly hitting a wall after outgrowing a weapon and advises keeping well-rolled Rare weapons in consideration. That is a useful reminder to compare the actual item, not a guarantee that every newer weapon improves the build.
Use the current Chain Force description
Chain Force changed more than once around launch. Patch 1.0.1 restored its effect to every third Basic Attack dealing 100% more direct damage; the old Vulnerable effect became a separate talent, Exposing Strikes. If a September build tells you Chain Force exists to apply Vulnerable, that description is out of date. Read the current node before spending points around its trigger.
For a setup still using its Basic Attack heavily, this gives you a concrete effect to compare. Keep the comparison focused: change the relevant talent choice, then watch the same encounter. Do not copy a numbered talent grid unless you can match every number to the current node.
Make a resource-supported transition
A lightning route should begin with a mana plan. HoneyDrake’s October 1 example combined mana-on-kill investment with a talent that could trigger those effects, then emphasized lightning critical chance and orb speed. The extra-orb ring arrived afterward and was explicitly described as unnecessary for getting the route working.
That example is not an instruction to equip every lightning skill at once. Compare a complete stage and its boss separately. If the group clear looks strong but the main attack repeatedly stops during the boss, keep the recovery equipment while you investigate the shortage. More damage on a tooltip cannot help an attack that is not being cast.
A later option: Sacred Judgment with sustained casting
For a more specific transition, dsds0821’s October 3 Sacred Judgment build centers the main attack on lightning damage, critical bonuses and control, with health and dodge for defense. During progression the author used Manaflow Greaves with a mana-regeneration minion, then later exchanged the greaves for Greaves of the Arcane Edge, warning that the remaining regeneration still had to support the attack. This is a player route, not a verified current best-in-slot list.
Make Sacred Judgment available and sustainable
Try the attack with your current recovery setup before reorganizing the whole character around it.
Keep the mana-support pieces while testing
Use the player route as a model for solving resource demand, not as a requirement to buy every named item.
Check utility against the encounter
The author treats Wind Steps, movement or gap-closing options and Spirit Twin as flexible choices rather than a mandatory package.
Trade recovery for damage gradually
After a replacement, watch both packs and the boss. If casting becomes intermittent, reverse that change before replacing another sustain piece.
Do not turn the build’s “stun spam” label into a promise of permanent control. Hotfix 1.0.2a explicitly discusses diminishing returns shortening control duration. Watch the boss even when ordinary packs stay controlled, and keep enough defense for the hits that still reach you.
Leave endgame-dependent setups for later
Spirit Stream Rune Grand adds four ability levels to Spirit Stream and requires Monk. It can support that skill later, but the item listing does not make it an early leveling requirement. Judge it against the attack and recovery plan you are actually keeping.
Likewise, older Golden Palms demonstrations need a version check. Version 1.0.2 reworked it into a travelling, penetrating projectile and changed the Hundred Hands interaction; the same update strengthened Iron Constitution after it prevents a lethal hit. Those changes are reasons to reassess a later physical setup, not to copy an old complete-set showcase onto an unfinished character.
