Quick answer
  • Reins permanently unlock their named minion. After using one, select the minion in the minion panel; players report that it takes over the loot carriage.
  • Minions can provide passive bonuses, active abilities or both. Do not assume every unlocked minion contributes its passive at the same time.

How minions work

Minions are part of Deskrawl’s loot and combat systems. The official store describes captured enemies, including bosses, hauling the loot cart and helping in combat through passive buffs or special abilities. The Rein of the Lord of the Crimson Vale gives a concrete example: it permanently unlocks that minion, whose description lists a bonus against Vulnerable enemies and an Earth Spikes ability.

Used a Rein but nothing appeared?

A successful unlock does not necessarily select your new companion. In an October 4 thread, a player heard an activation sound but saw no minion. Another player directed them to the lower-right minion button and to equip the minion on the cart; the original poster thanked them.

Use the Rein

Read the item’s unlock description before confirming. A tradable Rein may be worth keeping unused if you are still deciding whether to sell it.

Open the minion panel

Look for the newly unlocked name and select it. The reported interface route is the minion button at the bottom right.

Look at the carriage

Players report that choosing a different companion changes the creature pulling the cart, rather than adding an extra companion beside the character.

Does merely owning one grant its passive?

Launch players asked exactly this question. Replies in the Reins discussion say the passive applies while the minion is being used, and another discussion describes the equipped summon’s stats applying. Treat selection as the important step; collecting several Reins should not be treated as a source of automatically stacking every passive.

You can make the distinction visible by checking a simple relevant stat before and after selecting the minion. A conditional bonus against a debuff may not be represented by the same simple display as a flat Armor increase, so read the condition too.

Why a dropped Rein may be left behind

Loot settings and capacity are worth checking before assuming a drop is broken. October players describe unlocked duplicates being ignored by default and mention full cargo as a possible cause. Those reports predate or sit alongside a specific patch rule: version 1.0.0i, announced October 2, says Legendary Reins are always picked up regardless of filter settings. That official statement names Legendary Reins; do not apply it to every rarity.

Clear space, inspect duplicate-Rein settings and check your game version. If a legendary is still left behind with free cargo space after updating, record the item and circumstances rather than repeatedly changing unrelated equipment auto-sell options.
