Quick answer
  • Keep useful early gear, unlock loot handling through Life Skills, and farm an area your character can clear reliably before pushing the next boss.
  • Auto Next Stage arrived in patch 1.0.1. Check the run setting before leaving the game unattended; an older guide may only mention rerunning a stage.

Make your first session about a working setup

Deskrawl runs along the bottom of your desktop, but your first useful upgrades still need decisions: which gear to keep, which bonuses your attacks use, and when to stop pushing a boss. Start with a hero whose playstyle interests you. You do not need a late-game item set planned before seeing your early drops.

Before leaving the game farming, check three things: the area is beatable, possible equipment upgrades are being kept, and you know what your next Life Skills purchase is meant to solve. On your return, inspect the new gear before pushing farther.

Check the weapon before blaming the class

Open your inventory and compare the gear you are actually using with your attacks. In an October 3 progression discussion, a player pointed to the DETAILS panel as a way to see which damage types their equipment supported. Use that as a diagnostic: a large bonus to a damage type you rarely deal is a reason to inspect the item more closely.

Keep early pickup settings conservative. One player in the September 30 leveling thread eventually found that their Uncommon auto-sell setting was hiding useful upgrades while they still had a Common bow. The lesson is simple: a rarity can still contain improvements for your character even when it sounds like disposable loot.

Unlocking automation is not the same as choosing sensible filters. Revisit your settings after a few equipment upgrades; do not assume the filter that helped an established character is suitable for a new one.

When a boss stops your progress

Return to a fight you can finish

Choose a previously beaten boss or stage and inspect the gear it produces. Early progression replies recommend falling back this way when the next boss is out of reach. Stay focused on replacing a weak item, rather than expecting a particular number of hours to fix the build.

Inspect the weak part of the setup

Check your damage bonuses and health potion before changing every talent. If upgrades keep disappearing, inspect the loot filter as well.

Test the next boss again after a useful change

Replace a weak item or adjust a mismatched damage plan, then compare the result. Repeating this check makes it easier to identify what helped.

Town progression unlocks NPCs and services as you gather resources. Check those options when you return rather than treating every pause in combat as a reason to reroll your character.

Two small checks worth remembering

Used a Rein but cannot see your new minion? In an October 4 thread, opening the bottom-right Minions menu and putting the minion on the cart solved that exact problem for the original poster. Unlocking and selecting it are separate checks.

Need the remaining time on an active potion? Hover over it. In an October 4 discussion, that answer solved the original poster’s question; check the tooltip before consuming another potion.
