Quick answer
  • Use early talent points to support the attacks you can sustain, then specialise once your damage route is clear.
  • Check talent names and effects against the October updates: Steady Aim, Lethal Traps, Critical Injection and Lone Hunter all have relevant changes.

Start with the attack loop you can maintain

An early Hunter recommendation in the levelling thread prioritised attack speed, Dexterity, Long Shot, Sharp Shooter and Efficient Assault while the player was still experimenting. The same player specialised their damage talents after choosing Poison. Use that as an example of sequencing a build, not a requirement to copy every named node.

Resource support can change the better choice even when two Hunters use similar attacks. In the level-25 discussion, a player described taking a Strong Attack mana-cost reduction first, then changing the choice once mana regeneration was sufficient. That is a more useful decision rule than a fixed point list: a payoff that depends on frequent attacks has little value if you cannot sustain those attacks.

Four talent changes worth checking

Official Hunter talent details
TalentConfirmed updateWhy you should care
Steady AimPatch 1.0.1 extends its range bonus to Basic Attacks and changes the range per point from 6% to 5%.Old advice may describe only the earlier range behaviour.
Lethal TrapsReplaces Oversized Traps; gives 10% Trap damage per point, up to 60% at six points.Do not choose it expecting the old trap-size increase.
Critical InjectionPatch 1.0.2 says Poison-ability critical hits apply three additional Poisoned stacks instead of one.Its wording names Poison abilities; it is not a generic payoff for every attack.
Lone HunterPatch 1.0.2 strengthens its bonuses while retaining the no-enemy-within-six-units condition.A large listed bonus still needs its distance condition.

When a talent name seems to point to a missing skill

A player asked why Dazzling Recovery mentioned “Blinding Shot” when they could not find an ability with that name. Replies pointed them to Shockwave and Flare and advised checking the skills’ tags. The lesson is to read a talent’s qualifying category as well as the ability name; the forum exchange is not proof of the exact wording in every language or patch.

If that wording still does not match your client, avoid assuming that a similarly named skill qualifies. The community explanation points toward ability tags; it does not confirm a separate skill called Blinding Shot. Keep that naming distinction separate from the decision about whether the mana return is useful to your setup.

Specialise only around an active part of the build

For Poison, look for talent conditions that explicitly mention Poison abilities or Poisoned enemies. For traps, use the revised damage wording rather than the old size description. For a distance-dependent setup, decide whether your normal fight actually preserves that distance. This keeps the tree tied to what the character does instead of to the largest number on the talent screen.

This guide does not claim a universal point sequence. Equipment, available abilities and the difference between clearing packs and surviving a boss can change the useful allocation. Use the dedicated Lone Hunter and Rapid Fire pages when either interaction becomes central to your plan.
