Quick answer
  • Choose Sorcerer talents by the spell and condition they support. Patch 1.0.2 makes Shattering Ice, Combustion, Storm Conduit and Arcane Exposure important nodes to re-read, but it does not make them interchangeable. Mana support still matters when it determines how often your chosen attack can cast.

Four talents to re-read after 1.0.2

The condition matters as much as the buff

Shattering IceAdds 250% Critical Hit Damage against Frozen enemies, alongside its existing critical-chance bonus.Does your setup consistently produce the required Frozen target state?
CombustionExplosion base Fire damage rises to 300%; radius becomes 2.5 units.Does your build use the explosion trigger? The patch does not supply the complete trigger tooltip.
Storm ConduitElectrocute has a 30% chance to also cast Lightning Storm. Are you using Electrocute and supporting the resulting Lightning Storm?
Arcane ExposureApplies Vulnerable every fourth Strong Attack cast and adds 150% damage against Vulnerable enemies. Will your own Strong Attack casts apply Vulnerable often enough to support the conditional damage bonus?

Damage and cast availability belong in the same plan

A community Ice setup from Sera includes Frost Mastery, Mana regeneration, an Ice Meteor Mana-cost talent and Cold-related utility. The useful principle is the combination: its damage choices are paired with the ability to keep casting the attacks they support.

The longer launch discussion contains quite different allocations, including an early Fire start and later Ice switches after new gear. That is a reason to match the points to your current spells and drops. It is not evidence for one allocation that wins at every level.

What counts for a cast-trigger talent?

The official clarification says every-N-cast talents count your own casts. Repeated casts and minion or summon attacks do not advance the counter, and the count resets on death or an area change. Arcane Exposure is specifically named in that clarification.

Read its new fourth-cast threshold together with that rule. Do not count every projectile, repeat or summon hit as another Strong Attack cast.

Keep similarly named effects separate

Combustion has a documented explosion change. The isolated community reference to “conflag” does not prove Conflagration is the same talent or that it increases every source of damage.

A separate Lightning discussion asks why Static Charge applications and Current Transfer behave differently. Their current interaction remains unconfirmed. Read both current tooltips before spending points specifically to combine them.
